All our fabrics, whether cotton, polyester or linen, are woven in the Hauts de France region. This 100% French production is for us a guarantee of quality and recognition. Produce locally, produce responsibly...
When the canvas is woven, it is checked for the first time before shipping to ARTFIX. Once on site, it is again inspected and checked to detect any defects. Knots, thread defects and irregularities are carefully corrected.
All the fabrics are glued once minimum and up to twice for the thickest. Everything is done in a traditional way in order to respect the drying times and especially to allow the sanding of the fabrics between the layers. Reducing the roughness of the fabric allows up to 90% of visible defects to be eliminated.
Everyone has their own recipe! It's a bit of the secret of each House and the "Grandmother's" recipe that we pass down from generation to generation. At Artfix we manufacture our own coatings, whether acrylic or oil. Many components are worked, mixed, while taking into account the vagaries of the climate which can turn a coating in a few hours...
We produce two types of coating: An oil coating (Oil) and another Universal (U). The coating techniques are the same and respect the traditional manual know-how, ie Saber coating. We apply a different number of layers depending on the desired rendering: it starts with 2 layers and can go up to 6 layers! Our fabrics are traditionally available in 2.16 m but also in 2.7 m / 3.14 m for certain qualities and up to 4.1 m for our largest linen format.
Drying times are extremely important in the coating process. They are generally 24 hours between each layer and 48 to 72 hours after the final coating layer. These times can vary according to the ambient heat of the workshops, the hygrometry but also the ventilation which one activates or not. The climate of the South of France is therefore a major asset in this process.
Once dried, we check all the fabrics before rolling them up on our mandrels and storing them in stock. This last step is essential in order to guarantee the quality of our products...
Our canvas rolls are stored vertically to avoid any possible deformations on the rolls. Once the order has been prepared, we pack them either in tubes provided for this purpose or in boxes specially designed and produced for our canvas rolls. That's it, the goods can leave...
